About Us  |  Church Staff  |  Church History

Mt. Harmony Baptist Church was organized in August of 1871 in the James Russell Cape home. Services were held under a Brush Arbor on the John Olive Allen Property until a church-school log cabin was built in April of 1872 on a one-acre lot on the west half of the present cemetery. A.B. Smith was the first Pastor.

The church had eight different Pastors before voting December 14, 1896, to build the second building, which is now the Adult Sunday School building. They had seven more different Pastors before George W. Southard was called April 21, 1929, and served for 30 years before retiring on April 5, 1959.  Brother Bob A. Baxter was called April 5, 1959 and served faithfully for over 49 years before retiring in July, 2008 setting a record in the Georgia Baptist Convention for the longest continuous serving pastor at a single church.

The current Pastor, Dr. Randal Whitten, started his ministry at Mt. Harmony in August, 2008.

The present sanctuary was built from May 1955 to the first service on April 1, 1956. In 1966, the sanctuary was renovated and the balcony was extended.

In 1963, the church added the present education building and a new fellowship hall was built in 1977.

A new music room and an elevator was added in 2000 along with a remodeled office that says "Welcome to Mt. Harmony" when you enter the office area. Mt. Harmony is a loving, caring congregation and we warmly welcome you to join our family.
